Nextbase 622GW Review
The Nextbase 622GW emerged as the best dash cam in my test. It offers reliability, safety, and convenience all in one. The 4K recording is visually stunning, with vibrant colours and crisp details. Setting it up with the 3-inch touchscreen was a breeze. The enhanced night vision outperformed all other dash cams I tested, and the extreme weather mode was impressive in the rain. The image stabilisation ensured smooth footage over potholes and bumpy roads. The Nextbase 622GW stood out as the clear winner overall.
I did notice that videos took a bit longer to load using the app compared to other dash cams I tested. In terms of quality and performance, though, I couldn’t find any fault with this exceptional dash cam!

Key Points in Brief
Award Winning:
Top-of-the-line quality
The Nextbase 622GW sets the standard in every category. Its Ultra HD camera, powered by an Ambarella chipset and Omnivision 8MP sensor, offers stunning 4K at 30FPS, 2K at 60FPS, and 1080P at 120FPS recording capabilities. An exclusive Super Slow-Motion setting allows footage to be viewed at 120 frames per second, perfect for capturing details like registration plates. If you’re serious about dash cam quality and performance, the 622GW is Nextbase’s top-of-the-line dash cam that delivers without fault.
Welcomed Add-ons:
Safety & protection features
Nextbase has packed this dash cam with great safety features, including precise location sharing via what3words, which pinpoints your location using three unique words without needing a data connection. I wasn’t able to test this to know how well it works, but I imagine it would be literally life-saving if it did. Additionally, the emergency SOS feature automatically alerts emergency services in the event of an accident if no response is detected, yet another standout feature of this dash-mounted camera.
Seamless Installation & Use:
Excellent performance overall
Setting up the 622GW is simple, thanks to its built-in 3″ full-colour touchscreen display and easy-to-follow installation wizard. ‘MyNextbase Connect App, which connects via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi (dual 2.4GHz and 5GHz), is equally user-friendly. While you need a hardwire installation to permanently use the parking mode and G-sensor features, a 320mAh built-in internal battery provides about 15 minutes of recording without being connected to your car’s battery. The dash cam wakes up on detection of an impact and records 3 minutes of footage, a cool feature that’s hard to find in other dash cams.

Test findings
The Nextbase 622GW is hands-down my top pick for the best dash cam in the UK. It ticks all the right boxes with stunning image quality and user-friendly features.
The built-in polarising filter ensures glare-free footage, and the enhanced night mode keeps images sharp even in low light. Digital image stabilisation is great for bumpy roads, and the extreme weather mode captures clear footage in any condition.
Nextbase’s ‘MyNextbase Cloud’ storage makes sharing large 4K files easy, whether with family or insurance companies. The Amazon Alexa integration is also handy, allowing voice control for checking the weather, getting directions, and managing smart home devices, all displayed on your smartphone.
While the app can be slow to load videos at first, I found it worked smoothly once connected. The 622GW is a front-facing camera, but you can buy rear modules separately and connect them easily. Overall, it stands out as the best dash cam in the UK, rivalled only by the BlackVue DR907X in cloud service and build quality.
