Winner: Nextbase 622GW
The Nextbase 622GW emerged as the best dash cam in my test. It offers reliability, safety, and convenience all in one. The 4K recording is visually stunning, with vibrant colours and crisp details. Setting it up with the 3-inch touchscreen was a breeze. The enhanced night vision outperformed all other dash cams I tested, and the extreme weather mode was impressive in the rain. The image stabilisation ensured smooth footage over potholes and bumpy roads. The Nextbase 622GW stood out as the clear winner overall.
I did notice that videos took a bit longer to load using the app compared to other dash cams I tested. In terms of quality and performance, though, I couldn’t find any fault with this exceptional dash cam!

2nd Best: BlackVue DR970X
The BlackVue DR970X distinguished itself as my test’s best high-performance dash cam. It offers unmatched vehicle protection with the most reliable surveillance technology in the industry. Its upgraded CPU and image processing software consistently delivered impressive 4K quality, even at night. The premium build quality and features, including the BlackVue Cloud for backup and storage, further enhance its reliability. While a separate LTE module is needed for internet connectivity, I highly recommend it, especially if you want the ultimate protection from a dash cam.
With great power comes a higher price. I was initially unsure if the cost was justifiable, but if you’re looking to invest in a reliable and high-quality dash cam, the BlackVue DR970X is definitely worth it.

3rd Best: 70mai A810
Finding the best value 4K dash cam can be tough, which is why it’s important to stick to reputable manufacturers. In my test, the 70mai A810 stood out for its advanced technology combined with reliability and affordability. Featuring a 4K camera and Sony Starvis 2 Sensor, it’s a practical choice for those wanting great video quality without spending too much. While it may not match the overall excellence of the Nextbase 622GW or the high-performance features of the BlackVue DR970X, the 70mai A810 impressed with its 4G LTE connectivity and Night Owl Vision™️ technology.
The lack of 2K recording options and reliance on lithium batteries instead of supercapacitors are notable drawbacks. Additionally, while the 60FPS recording is a valuable feature, it requires reducing the front camera resolution to 1080P.

4th Best: Viofo A119 Mini 2
If you’re looking for the best front-only dash cam that delivers high-end performance and practicality, the A119 Mini 2 excelled in my test. Made by the trusted dash cam manufacturer VIOFO, it boasts high-quality 2K resolution and is the second on my list of dash cams featuring the Sony Starvis 2 Sensor. The clarity it offers is immediately noticeable. I love its compact design, user-friendly 1.5-inch LCD screen, and sturdy build. With a wide field of view and various recording modes like 60FPS and HDR, the resulting footage is clear and detailed.
While the Viofo A119 Mini 2 has a couple of minor drawbacks such as its non-adjustable (side-to-side) camera positioning once mounted and the need for clearer voice commands, it still offers tremendous value with its advanced features.

5th Best: Thinkware F200 Pro
Typical of all Thinkware products, the F200 Pro stood out in my test for its sleek, lightweight design and great features. It has a 2.0-megapixel camera that records in 1080p at 30 frames per second, giving clear video both day and night. Hardwiring it unlocks extra features usually found in expensive dash cams, but at a much lower price. If you just need a high-performance dash cam for driving protection, the plug-and-play setup is easy to use right away. The F200 Pro impressed as a solid choice among all the dash cams I evaluated.
To activate the parking modes and Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), you’ll need hardwiring (included in the 2-channel option) and a separate purchase for the GPS module. While the F200 Pro is on the pricier side, it offers quality in return.

6th Best: Garmin Mini 2
The Garmin Mini 2 excels with its compact design, enduring popularity, and the trust it commands as a Garmin product. During testing, the video quality at 1080P was clear and sufficient, enhanced by the wide 140-degree lens and Garmin Clarity HDR Optics. Night recordings are also clear, although slightly overexposed, which seems intentional in improving visibility. Voice commands function well; features like Parking Guard and Live View can provide added security when hardwired.
The Mini 2 doesn’t have GPS, so there’s no tracking of speed, and cable management may be a problem if you’re using the 12V power cable. The Live View and Parking Guard, although welcomed features, do need a constant Wi-Fi connection for it to work.

It’s reliable, straightforward, and backed by a trusted brand with a 3-year product guarantee. It includes all the essentials needed in a standard dash cam, offering good day and night video recording, Wi-Fi connectivity to view footage, and easy-to-operate functions. Perfect for everyday driving, the ‘Halo Go’ earns my pick as the “Best Everyday” dash cam in the UK among those I tested.
It’s worth noting that some users have reported issues with the SD card initialisation process. In my experience, this problem did not occur, but it is something potential buyers should be aware of. Using a high-quality SD card, preferably from the recommended brands, might mitigate this issue.
